THE FACES IN THE MIRROR
Need something to look at instead of your phone? Look up and chat with your stylist. You’ll definitely have plenty in common.
DAVID
Davey lives for hairdressing, and the different people he gets to meet each and every day. A true all-rounder, his focus is on the details, be it a crisp fringe or a clean fade. The little things are what people remember, so expect hot towels and cold drinks – both of them at the perfect temperature.
Hairdressing’s in my blood. My grandmother had a salon back home in Portsmouth, so I started there when I was 14 – doing perms and making coffees for £1 tips. I loved my grandmother, she taught me all the basics and gave me my passion for the industry. I can still hear her teaching me while I work.
DRINK OF CHOICE
I love the Cut and Rum cocktail that Alex Grinton created for the salon, so either that or a classic Big Wave Golden Ale.
SALON SOUNDTRACK
I start a new playlist every year, and 2021 is shaping up to be a winner. It’s heavy on the country, with a splattering of rock, ska, reggae, funk, soul, blues, fold, metal, you get the idea…
DREAM CUT?
I love a good mullet, and they’re back in! The Kurt Russell 80s look is such a laugh, so I’d knock one out any day.
TERA
Tera is Cut and Run’s queen of colour, or ‘color’ as an American hailing from San Diego. Her speciality is innovative shades, and outside-the-box styles that are living pieces of art. Tera’s passion for the industry has taken her around the world, and Cut and Run is the culmination of all that experience and creativity.
I went to cosmetology school straight out of high school, and I’d known from a young age that I wanted to be a hairdresser. I love creating a safe space where my clients can unleash their creativity with a new style or an out-there hair colour idea that helps explain who they are to the outside world.
DRINK OF CHOICE
A good cup of black coffee. You can’t beat it.
SALON SOUNDTRACK
I love rock and roll. Give me anything that was recorded before 1982 and I’m happy. The grittier the better, and preferably with a decent helping of teenage angst.
DREAM CUT?
I’d love to shave someone’s head and paint it like a blank canvas. Psychedelic scenes. Crazy colour combos. A colourful galaxy. I’m open to anything!
EMILY
Emily’s a born-and-bred Bristolian, but the West Country’s loss is our gain – with her creativity, charisma, and passion for the craft the perfect fit for our Stoke Newington salon.
Growing up in vibrant Bristol, I always knew I wanted to meet and work with people from all over. Hairdressing is an amazing way to do that, and to give them sweet new looks at the same time – the perfect combination. I’m always down for a new challenge, and love working with my clients to give them something that’s special to them.
DRINK OF CHOICE
Anything spicy and rum-y, like a Dark ‘n’ Stormy!.
SALON SOUNDTRACK
I love an eclectic playlist stuffed with different genres for different moods, but especially dub, 60s psych, indie rock, and 80s electronic.
DREAM CUT?
Nothing’s better than a transformation. I adore reinventing a client’s look, and the bolder, the better.
TEGAN
Tegan specialises in all things wonderful and wild. From the crispest bleached looks to out-of-this-world colourful creations, the more out-there, the better.
What I love most about colour and hairdressing is getting to be creative each and every day – working hand-in-hand with my clients to bring their vision to life. I love that connection, and it’s a joy to get to know a client on that personal level, and hear their wildest stories while we’re working together.
DRINK OF CHOICE
It has to be a pint, doesn’t it?
SALON SOUNDTRACK
My salon playlist is pretty varied, with everything from early 2000s emo to acid house and Afrobeat.
DREAM CUT?
The dream is something new and fun! The crazier it is, the more I’ll want to do it.
RUNI
Runi is a forest-dweller who ventured too far from the tree line and eventually found himself in London. Born in Kazakhstan and raised in the Czech Republic, he’s been in the industry for nearly 15 years – embracing new cultures, philosophies, and tastes in fashion, music, and art at every step along the way.
Growing up in a humble village environment, I had to rely on intuition and imagination to find my freedom through visual art, photography, and of course, hair. I love cuts that match and accentuate my clients’ styles. But I also love change – so whether someone decides to go blunt, textured, short, long, curly, straight, or gay, I’m always down for something different.
DRINK OF CHOICE
Absinthe, tequila, and whiskey. Depending on the season, occasion, and company
SALON SOUNDTRACK
I love an eclectic mix. Powerful psychedelics, mouthfuls of freaky folk and splashes of indie or electronic. If all else fails though, I’m putting on Björk.
DREAM CUT?
Right now, I’m in the mood for bold colours, textures with varying lengths, and sleek sharp cuts. Think tech fairies, raccoon tails and Blade/Matrix meets Japanese anime.
